Even today, it is not uncommon to see passers-by turning around in the street when a Tesla passes by. The American manufacturer still fascinates the general public with its innovative and futuristic aspect. This fascination is found in particular in the figures unveiled by Tesla. For example, in December 2020, the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling vehicle in the United Kingdom, thus beating heat-engine cars like the Volkswagen Golf or the Ford Fiesta, which occupied respectively in this month of December the second and third square.

Tesla Model S test: should we still buy it in 2020?

However, those in the know know that Tesla is very often criticized for its reliability when satisfaction surveys are conducted among owners. It must be said that Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, often prefers to bet on the innovative nature of his vehicles, for example by optimizing their speed, rather than worrying about their quality or their reliability. Last year, Philippe Chain, the former vice president of quality at Tesla, even explained why it was not advisable to buy the first batches of Tesla regardless of the model.

A survey that has a little more impact on Tesla’s image

As if that wasn’t enough, JD Power just unveiled its “Annual US Vehicle Reliability Study 2021”. Bad news for Tesla which tumbles to last place in this ranking, while Porsche, with whom the Model S was able to compete, is positioned in second place behind Lexus. However, it’s important to clarify that Tesla is not truly ranked, as JD Power has failed to interview owners in 15 states. The score was therefore calculated on a panel of 35 states and not 50.

JD Power believes that Tesla would be positioned in 31st place in this ranking, if the survey had been conducted under the right conditions. This means that only Jaguar Alfa Romeo and Land Rover would position themselves behind Tesla.
