Hideo Kojima is one of the most iconic video game creators in history. A character apart, with his own vision to whom we owe cult games like the Metal Gear Solid saga and recently Death Stranding. Several times he offered innovative games that broke the codes.
After many years at Konami, Hideo Kojima left the editor to create his own studio in 2015 with Kojima Production. During E3 2016, he announced his partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment for the development of Death Stranding, his new game which will therefore be a console exclusive on PS4.
After only four years of collaboration, Hideo Kojima could according to some rumors join Microsoft for a game exclusively on PC and Xbox.
Kojima Production and Xbox Game Studios hand in hand?
According to our colleagues at VentureBeat, Hideo Kojima is currently in discussions with Microsoft for his next game. According to journalist Jeff Grubb, generally knowledgeable about the video game industry, the agreement between Sony and Metal Gear Solid’s dad could already be completed.
The biggest proof I have is that Abandoned is not from Kojima and that Kojima is in talks with Microsoft to release his next game, according to a source familiar with the matter. And yes, that statuette on the Phil Spencer’s shelf was a reference to a potential deal with the legendary developer. I can’t confirm if Xbox has already made the deal, but I understand Kojima is at the center of a Microsoft plan to harness the talents of Japanese.
Jeff Grubb of course refers to this video of Phil Spencer where we see in the background a statuette of the white cosmonaut, which is the emblem of Kojima Production, the studio of Hideo Kojima.
In 2020, Microsoft made the buzz with this kind of teasing. In July, during an Xbox Showcase, an Xbox Series S had slipped discreetly into the background of Phil Spencer, two months before its official reveal. Since then, with each speech, fans scrutinize the decor of the boss of Xbox in search of clues on the projects to come.
Sony is rumored to have turned down Kojima’s upcoming game following disappointing sales from Death Stranding. Faced with this refusal, the Japanese creator would have decided to turn to Microsoft.
