Since opening in 2018, the Shanghai Gigafactory has been running at full speed. However, relations between China and the United States prevent the American manufacturer from considering an expansion of this plant. Moreover, Tesla does not seem to be very popular with the Chinese authorities. The company headed by Elon Musk is under wide scrutiny over various accusations regarding its handling of Asian customer data. Additionally, in China, Tesla is accused of ignoring customer complaints.

A speed regulator that is a little too sensitive

As if that were not enough, the Chinese market regulator has just announced that Tesla is forced to recall nearly 300,000 vehicles because of a failure in the cruise control. It seems that this option presents too many risks of accidental activations. It is precisely 249,855 Model 3 and Model Y manufactured in Shanghai and 35,665 imported vehicles that have been recalled.

On Weibo, the equivalent of Twitter in China, Tesla says: “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this recall to all car owners. Tesla will continue to improve safety in strict accordance with national requirements. ” Following an investigation into possible faults, Chinese authorities said the car’s cruise control systems could be activated by accident, causing the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly. At the moment, Tesla does not seem determined to comment on the situation.

At the same time, Tesla saw a major shareholder leave. Panasonic has sold its entire stake in Tesla, the equivalent of $ 3.6 billion. It is important to specify that the Japanese group needs money since it plans to buy Blue Yonder, a company which specializes in supply chains thanks to artificial intelligence, for 7 billion dollars. Yuki Kusumi, CEO of Panasonic, wants to reassure everyone by explaining that this decision has no impact on relations with the American manufacturer.
