Soon a 100% electric BMW M5?
The German manufacturer BMW acts as a pioneer in the electric car market, with its i3 model available on the market since 2013. It is obviously the very first electric vehicle of the German brand, pending the future iX3 models and others BMW i4 which will arrive soon.
In 2014, BMW surprised its world by unveiling the very futuristic i8 sports car, more than 20,000 of which have sold a hybrid engine. A sports car whose production is now stopped, but that does not mean the end of electric sportsmanship at BMW.
Indeed, according to our British colleagues from Car Magazine, BMW is considering developing a new BMW M5 … 100% electric. A sporty supercharged therefore, who would carry a 135 kWh (400v) battery for a range of about 700 km. Motorization side, there are no less than three electric motors that would be considered here (one at the front and two at the rear), for a total power of … 1,006 hp!
Remember that BMW has recently canceled its BMW Vision Next project, perhaps to focus on this future generation of M5. However, the next BMW 5 Series is not expected before 2023, which implies that the M (thermal) versions should arrive for their part in 2024. To see now if BMW will launch this electric M5 at the same time as the "standard" models », But in any case, you should not expect to drive an electric BMW M5 for about 4 years.
In the meantime, we should already be able to take advantage of the new BMW i4, which should give an overview of the electric innovations adopted by the German giant. An electric model which should appear in the form of a 4-door coupé, and inaugurate a new visual identity common to the future electric models of the Bavarian manufacturer, without forgetting a maximum speed of more than 200 km / h, and a 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds.
