If Renault remains focused on the future, the manufacturer does so by going back to the past. At the start of the year, Renault announced the return of the famous R5 in an electric version, and today seems to be preparing a surprise for the most nostalgic. Indeed, if many rumors have evoked it for a few months, Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault has just formalized the return of the 4L.

Another emblematic model of the brand, the 4L, like the R5, will return from 2024 in an electric version. As a reminder, the 4L is 8 million vehicles sold between 1960 and 1992, which makes it a more than emblematic car for the diamond brand, and for France in general. Relaunching such a model should not be such a simple task for Renault.

The 4L has just celebrated its 60th anniversary

It will therefore be a kind of sixtieth anniversary with a little delay, with as a gift a revisited version of the eternal 4L. Like the R5, the 4L should come back to life thanks to the CMF-BEV platform, which reduces manufacturing costs by 33% compared to those of the Zoé. To this day, we are still lacking valuable elements to know more about this vehicle, but everything leads us to believe that we should know more in the coming months.

Renault, which was one of the electric pioneers in France with the Zoé, now seems to have been overtaken by a few competitors. To remedy this, the French manufacturer plans to unveil 10 new electric models by 2025. From 2022, the Mégane E-Tech Electric will show the way for the following nine models. Like many manufacturers in Europe, the Renault Group is targeting 2030 so that almost all of its sales are electric or hybrid vehicles. Recently, it was Audi which announced that it wanted to abandon thermal engines in 2033.
