Available since November 19 around the world (subject to stocks), the PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Digital Edition are a huge hit for Sony. The next-gen shift is clearly pronounced for the Japanese firm, in particular thanks to its DualSense, to say the least, revolutionary and very promising for the next games.
But the latter has an option that may disturb some players. An option that was already available on PS4, but only when a headset was plugged in. This option? Recording your voice and your surroundings!
The DualSense records you!
So it’s on Reddit that we were able to discover this rather surprising little video of a PS5 player who unlocks a trophy. This is part of the new features of the PS5 that automatically records a small video of a few seconds (in addition to a screenshot) the moment you unlock a trophy. This surfer was surprised to see that his voice and his joy are also part of the capture in question.
First time Souls player. I didn’t realize that the PS5 records your microphone’s audio whenever you get a trophy. Whoops. from r / PS5
An option which can of course be deactivated at any time, but which is activated by default. And this is already a problem for some players who criticize this possibility following privacy violations. However, this system was already present (by default) on PS4 as soon as a headset was connected to the DualShock 4 controller.
So, like any device with a microphone (like connected speakers) these devices can hear us because that’s the goal. To be able to interact with us and spread our voice.

For players who are really bothered by this option, just go to the DualSense menu (via the PlayStation button on your controller), then go to microphone and deactivate this option.
It should be remembered that when the DualSense’s microphone is not in use, it does not record you and does not record your daily life, your private life or your frenzied games. No need to be afraid.
