Emmanuel Macron presented on Tuesday a massive 8 billion euro plan, intended to revive but above all to transform the automotive sector, by pushing consumers towardselectric and thehybrid.

On a visit to a factory of the Valeo equipment manufacturer in Étaples, in Pas-de-Calais, Emmanuel Macron detailed, on Tuesday, May 26, a plan which he announced as " historical " intended to rescue or even save water the automobile industry, which like tourism or air transport, was particularly impacted by the coronavirus crisis. The President of the Republic revealed the amount of the envelope allocated to the sector: 8 billion euros.

An increased purchase premium, with the inclusion of hybrid vehicles

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, had warned: the plan should be turned to green technologies. The main lines of the latter, detailed by Emmanuel Macron Tuesday, confirm the philosophy of the minister. The head of state first announced an increase in the ecological bonus for any purchase of a new electric vehicle.

This will be 7,000 euros for individuals (compared to a maximum of 6,000 euros currently) and 5,000 euros for professionals. Suffice to say that the discount on the invoice will be significant. Emmanuel Macron even announced the creation of a new bonus, in the amount of 2,000 euros, intended for plug-in hybrid vehicles.

A conversion bonus extended to " three-quarters of the French "

Second major announcement included in this vast recovery plan: the strengthening of the conversion premium, or scrappage premium. Think that today, this only applies in the event that you replace your old vehicle. Well, Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the government is considering extending its allocation for certain maintenance or repair work, if it is intended to reduce the vehicle's carbon footprint.

Regarding the replacement of your old vehicle with a new vehicle, the amount of the conversion premium, today 1,500 euros, could be reassessed to 2,000 for low-income households. Very modest households could benefit from a bonus that would rise from 3,000 to 4,000 euros. And for the latter, the old Crit-Air 3 vehicles could be included in the transaction. Emmanuel Macron said in his speech that " three-quarters of the French will be eligible », Since the new minimum tax revenue must be less than 18,000 euros.

With this XXL plan, which would supplement a loan of 5 billion euros guaranteed by the State (but far from being finalized) offered to Renault, the State hopes to keep the French automotive sector afloat by boosting sales through the prism markets (electric and hybrid) that will make the automobile of tomorrow and " make France the leading producer of clean vehicles in Europe by increasing the production of electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid vehicles to more than one million per year within five years " It remains to be seen whether the French will be ready to take up the challenge, which promises to be immense.
