After the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 came the Mi Mix 2S and after the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 arrives … the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, a conceptual mobile so peculiar that Xiaomi has chosen to change the name by momentarily abandoning the numbering.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha 5G is completely different from the Xiaomi Mi MIX we knew so far, although it keeps up with all of them the obsession to take the screen to the maximum. Here we face its predecessor, also with 5G connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G.

Screen everywhere

The most important change of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is obvious: this is not so much a mobile with a big screen, but a big screen that is a mobile. While the MIX series has always been quite peculiar in its design to take the screen to the maximum, it is necessary to recognize that the last member goes one step further.

Thus, while the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 opted for a sliding mechanism -manual- to uncover the front camera -dual- when needed and thus achieve the screen outside edge to edge, in the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha not nothing moves. Here the screen occupies the entire front and almost the entire rear, except for a strip where the camera, antennas and other components and the upper and lower ends, of titanium.

Little screen

To be fair, it is the same idea of ‚Äč‚ÄčNubia X but taken to the extreme. It is not here a front screen and a rear screen, but a single screen that covers virtually the entire phone, including its songs. They show additional information such as battery level or connectivity, as well as touch buttons.

Megapixels for a while

Now that we have removed the most obvious difference, what else changes from the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G to the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha? Well, in photographic matters, first things first: no camera for selfies, while in the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G it was a double 24 + 2 MP trigger that only appeared when you wanted it.

This is so you can use the rear camera as a front, since the screen wraps around the terminal and you can see the preview of the photo also from behind. Of course, in a box, because the strip with the camera is a bit in the middle.

In exchange for not having a front camera, the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha has a monstrous rear camera with a 108 megapixel main sensor, a wide angle of 20 MP that doubles functions as a 1.5 cm macro and a third 12 MP telephoto lens that does the same 2X zoom that enhances portraits. In comparison, the double 12 + 12 MP lens knows little.

A little more power and faster charging

Speaking of raw power, the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha rides the Snapdragon 855+ instead of the 855 of the MIX 3, so it takes advantage of a slightly higher clock speed. It is not a brutal performance difference, but the 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage allow the system to move more smoothly than with the 6 + 64 of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3.

As for the battery, there is a small improvement from 3,800 mAh to 4,050 mAh, although the most relevant is fast charge improvement. Fast wired charging reaches 40W, while wireless fast charging goes up to 30W, three times faster than in its predecessor.

Comparison table

As always, we leave you here a comparative table so you can compare both terminals. You must remember that the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha 5G, although it will be sold in small quantities, is primarily a concept and is sold at a much higher price than the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3: approximately three times more expensive.
