For several years and the establishment of Playstation plus as well as Game With Gold on Xbox we have all been faced with this situation where a game we recently purchased is offered to be offered on PS4 / PS5 or Xbox One / Xbox Series X and Series S.
A delicate and disappointing situation since it could have saved us a few precious euros or allowed us to buy another game instead. It looks like all of this will soon be history on PlayStation 5. Several players have received an email from Sony Interactive Entertainment telling them that their recent purchase will be refunded soon.
PS Plus games refunded on PS5?
It is therefore on Reddit that several players shared their experience and the email received from Sony Interactive Entertainment. A few days ago, the new games offered on PlayStation Plus in January 2021 were announced. So, if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, you can get Shadow of the Tomb Raider, GreedFall, and the PS5 version of Maneater for free right now.
Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC since May 2020, Maneater has had a next-gen version since the launch of the PS5 last November. Obviously, Sony intends to reimburse the players who have fallen for the game lately. A user shares the email received by Sony without having requested any refund.
Based on your PlayStation Plus membership status, we will refund the purchase price of this product to your PlayStation Store wallet as it is one of the monthly PlayStation Plus games. It will not affect your ability to play the game since we have not removed it from your library.
At the moment, we do not have enough information to know how Sony will proceed with its refunds. We know that some users bought the game when it released on PS5 in November, others during December. It is certain that Sony will not reimburse all games, but only purchases that are going to be a month or two old. At this point, we also don’t know if this is just for US gamers or all PS5 users.
Another question arises as to whether the refund voids the purchase of the game? Will the player still have access to their “normal” version of the game without a PS Plus subscription? Important questions which, we hope, will be answered in the coming days.
