Since its release in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch has continued to perform well. Between regular game releases, the many remasters of Wii U games that are logically successful, or the judicious arrival of the Switch Lite, all lights are green for Nintendo and its latest console.

In 2020, the Switch marked another busy year with the releases of Animal Crossing New Horizons, Hyrule Warriors: Age of the Scourge, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, and Paper Mario: The Origami King. With these games, the Kyoto firm once again achieves a grandiose year in France.

But it’s not just about games that Nintendo’s latest console excels. The sales follow and reach rather staggering figures in a short time.

And 5 million for the Switch in France

At the beginning of January, we learned through Christopher Dring (the head of the GamesIndustry.biz site) that the Nintendo Switch had had an exceptional year in the United Kingdom. Nintendo’s console sold better in 2020 to our British friends than the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S combined.

Obviously, the Switch was also a hit in France. After selling nearly 1.25 million copies over the whole of 2019 in France, allowing to accumulate 3.3 million sold in France since its release, the Nintendo Switch has reached a new level.

As of December 31, 2020, 5 million Nintendo Switch have found buyers in France since the launch of the machine in March 2017. This is an official figure revealed by Philippe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France. This score enables Nintendo’s turnover to increase by 40% in our territory for the whole of 2020.

With the latest rumors around the Switch Pro, Nintendo’s latest console could still have a long and bright future ahead of it. In France in any case, it is not only the console that performs well. In 2020, Animal Crossing achieved the feat of dethroning FIFA for best-selling video games. A first for more than six years!
