Counterpoint Research new report claims installed user base data of the iPhone 12 range outperformed the iPhone 11 series globally. The market research firm compared the installed active user base of the iPhone 11 range in Q1 2020 and the iPhone 12 range in Q1 2021.
- iPhone 12 series initial sales said to be better than iPhone 11 series, claims Counterpoint Research new data.
- New data also claims iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max install base better than that of iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
- iPhone 12 was claimed to be the best-selling 5G smartphone last year, as per Counterpoint Research in October 2020.
iPhone 12 range topped the charts for 5G-enabled devices in October last year, as per Counterpoint Research data. Now, the latest report claims that the iPhone 12 install user base data outperformed iPhone 11 in Q1 2021 compared to Q1 2020.
The market research firm’s latest data considers the iPhone installed base, unlike sales or shipments data reveals figures about the number of units in a product series in use. The new report delves into the active user base of the iPhone 12 series, which the research firm says increased by 2 per cent in Q1 2021 compared to Q1 2020.
Counterpoint says that the initial sales of the iPhone 12 range, including the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max were better than the iPhone 11 series. Comparing the total installed base in Q1 2021 vs Q1 2020, the market research firm says that the iPhone 11 series, including the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max stood at 15 per cent last year, while the iPhone 12 series was at 16 per cent in Q1 2021. The important point to note here is that the iPhone 12 range launched last year almost a month late compared to the iPhone 11 series. This means that the iPhone 11 series had more time on the market than the new iPhone 12 series.
Counterpoint data also suggests that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max installed base was better than their predecessors, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The new data is not surprising, as the iPhone 12 was the best-selling 5G smartphone in October, as per Counterpoint data. And, this means the new data is the only extension of the popularity of the iPhone 12 range.
In October 2020, the iPhone 12 stormed to become the top smartphone with 5G connectivity leading the chart along with the iPhone 12 Pro.
The new data also shows that the iPhone 11 performed better than the iPhone XS series as well as maintained its growth even after the launch of the iPhone 12 range last year.
“One generation old models’ share in this data also shows that the iPhone 11 series’ performance was better than the XS series. The iPhone 11 series performed well not only in its early days after launch but also maintained the momentum for a considerable period after the iPhone 12 series launch. The XS series accounted for 21% of the installed base in Q1 2020, but the iPhone 11 series accounted for 25% in Q1 2021, showing a 4% points difference,” explains the new Counterpoint Research report.
