After missing the tenth anniversary last year, we learned today through the Syndicate of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL) that Paris Games Week 2021 is also canceled. Despite the progress of the vaccination campaign and a return to normal (we hope) that is emerging, the “uncertain context” does not allow to organize an edition “up to” the ambitions of SELL

We will therefore have to wait even more than a year to be able to meet again and celebrate the video game industry through the largest gaming fair in France.

See you in 2022 for Paris Games Week

It was therefore through a press release that SELL confirmed the news. Despite many hopes, organizing an event worthy of the name was far too complex. Thus, the organizers preferred to cancel the edition in order to focus already on 2022 to achieve “the most beautiful of editions”.

SELL Official Press Release:

A year ago, we made the difficult decision to cancel Paris Games Week which celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since then, we have worked tirelessly with our partners to prepare you for a magnificent 2021 edition. Our ambition: to meet and celebrate together our passion for video games. We have studied all the possible devices in the hope of being able to offer you the most beautiful of the holidays. A large number of events have been resuming in recent weeks, which is a very positive movement. However, the PGW is above all a huge party and a unique physical event.

Since its creation in 2010, Paris Games Week has been a large festive gathering built around all video game communities to celebrate the same passion. This celebration brings together hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts every year around the players in the industry for several days: we do not conceive of offering a reduced or degraded experience.

Despite our desire and our commitment, we must make the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 edition of Paris Games Week. The uncertain context does not allow us to organize an edition that meets our ambitions and the expectations of the players. It is this same spirit of responsibility and requirement that is leading the major players in video games to be forced to cancel their participation in a physical edition in 2021.

The passion for video games occupies an important place in the lives of French people. Both popular leisure and vector of social bond, the video game has allowed many of us to stay connected to our loved ones despite the health context, but also to continue to learn, to discover, to have fun and to to escape. The outlook on video games has changed and Paris Games Week will remain this great event which brings together all enthusiasts around the wealth of this sector.

We are already looking to the future and are working on the 2022 edition to celebrate our reunion and all together experience the most beautiful of editions.

See you in the second half of the year 2022 (probably at the end of October) to meet again and celebrate together this great passion for video games.
