Foreshadowed by the Imagine concept, the future electric SUV from the manufacturer Kia, nicknamed "CV" internally, aims to work on the flower beds of the Tesla Model Y.
Kia has big ambitions in the electric vehicle sector. These are embodied in Plan S presented on January 14, 2020, which revolves around eleven new zero-emission cars by 2025 and annual sales of one million electrified cars by 2026. All thanks to a massive investment of $ 25 billion over the next five years.
Kia CV, meeting in 2021?
From this Plan S will thus result a new electric SUV with a commercial name still unknown. Internally, the latter would be called Kia CV, we learn Auto Express. Inspired by the Imagine concept for the first time exhibited at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the famous Sport Utility Vehicle would be entitled to an exit during the year 2021.
And would have as main objective to come to compete with the Tesla Model Y.
New E-GMP platform
According to Steve Kosowski, of the “Product Strategy” department of Kia America, the Kia CV will have a range of approximately 480 kilometers, the same range as the Performance version of the Model Y. But above all, the vehicle of the South Korean brand would have a new charging technology, which would allow it to recharge in less than twenty minutes.
Always according to Auto Express, the Kia CV, based on the brand new modular E-GMP platform, will indeed have an electrical voltage of 800 V – like the Porsche Taycan – which would allow it to take advantage of the Ionity charging stations of 350 kW. It's a safe bet that this SUV will be talked about again in the coming months in the event of an official launch next year.
