A few hours ago, Micromania-Zing announced on all of its social networks as well as its official website the implementation of a console rental system as of this week. For players who want to switch to PS5 or Nintendo Switch, but who cannot afford to spend between € 300 and € 500, Micromania will offer a monthly package to rent your console.
On paper, this is a great deal that could help many gamers experience the pleasures of the next-gen. Alas, all this is not really interesting, on the contrary.
A PS5 at 769 €… Which doesn’t belong to you!
Micromania therefore offers several offers for a PS5. You will be able to pay every month for a console that will never be yours. Unlike Microsoft’s Xbox All Access, you cannot keep your PS5 at the end of your rental period.
Thus, Micromania offers a first 24-month “Starter” subscription at € 17.49 per month after a first payment of € 69.99. Thus, you will spend in two years 472.26 € for a console that you will be obliged to return. In compensation, Micromania offers you a membership in the “Micromania Club”.
The second “Pro-Gamer” offer is much more expensive since it is offered at € 24.99 per month after a first payment of € 69.99. This represents a total of € 644.76. Again, for a PS5 that you will have to return at the end of the period. It is still € 144.76 more expensive than the new console. In return, Micromania offers you (for the duration of the subscription) a second controller, a voucher of 40 €, a guarantee against all breakdowns and breakage of the console as well as a membership in the “Micromania Club” .
Finally, the latest “Pro-Gamer +” offer is € 19.99 for 36 months. This represents a total of 769.64 €, or 269.64 € more expensive than the standard PS5! Here again, you get (during the subscription period) a second controller, a voucher of 40 €, a guarantee against all breakdowns and breakage of the console as well as a membership in the “Club Micromania” and a possibility to migrate to a potential PS5 Slim in the next 3 years.
Even for the first offer, the player is penalized since he will not be able to resell his console and will therefore have spent € 472 for two years in the wind.
The switch at more than 500 €!
On the Switch side, it’s the same thing. This time, Micromania offers two offers which, at first glance, are attractive. But in reality you will be wasting more money than anything else!
The “Starter” package is therefore offered at € 17.49 for 18 months after a first payment of € 44.99. This therefore a total price of 342.32 €. It is therefore € 42.32 more expensive than the basic Switch. For this price, you will simply be entitled to a “Micromania Club” membership.
The second “Plus” package is fixed at € 19.99 per month for 24 months after a first payment of € 64.99. Thus, you will pay 524,76 €! It is therefore 224.76 € more expensive than a normal Switch. To put it simply, the total price of this plan is like buying a Switch and a Switch Lite.
Case to be continued therefore, for the moment Micromania has not responded to the controversy and specifies that it will always be possible to buy consoles “normally” in their brands.
