Since November 19, 2020 and the worldwide launch of the PS5 (a week after the US release), millions of players have been impatiently waiting to get their hands on Sony’s latest creation. But the demand is far too high for the successful machine the best launch in the history of a video game console.
According to AMD, a component supplier and official partner of Sony and Microsoft for the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, the shortage is expected to last until this summer. Still, Sony is quite confident. The Japanese manufacturer is planning an official launch of its machine in China from the second quarter of 2021.
The PS5 conquers China
Between China and video games, it’s not really a beautiful love story. Since 2000, this medium has been banned. It will be necessary to wait until 2014 before the Chinese government decides to reverse this decision. Since 2015, Sony has officially offered PS4s for sale in this territory. It was then the turn of Microsoft with its Xbox One and Nintendo with its Switch since the end of 2019. Of course, everything is highly monitored and the government does not allow any games to be sold on its soil.
A sign that things are progressing in the right direction, it will not be necessary to wait nearly two years for a new next-gen console to arrive on Chinese territory, but only a few months. Indeed, Sony China has just formalized the arrival of the PS5 for the second quarter. Comments reported by the analyst Daniel Ahmad.
