The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and its five rear photo sensors. – Xiaomi

  • With no less than 5 rear photo modules including a 108 megapixel camera, the new Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is among the smartphones this end of the year.
  • Sold 549 euros "only" this terminal can be proud to offer a performance / price ratio unbeatable.
  • Another advantage: a monster autonomy with a battery of 5260 milliamperes.

Xiaomi breaks the prices. The Chinese firm announced this November 6 the launch of its Mi Note 10, a smartphone that embeds the very first sensor of 108 megapixels. And it is sold 549 euros. 549 euros "only". As seen the data sheet Mi Note 10, one might wonder if there is not missing a "1" in front of the "549". Or almost…

Five rear photo modules

In appearance, the Mi Note 10 is very similar to the OnePlus 7T, one of the most prominent smartphones at the end of the year. Its slightly curved 6.47 '' / 16.43 cm screen is Amoled and Full HD + (1080 x 2340 pixels). Small black borders and the central notch betray some aesthetic weaknesses, the image does not go on board lost. But our smartphone still looks great. A fingerprint reader is hidden under the screen. Our first tests show that he is a little capricious. It is by turning the device that the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 detonates.

There are not two or three or four photo modules back, but five! If you start an inventory in the Prévert, it gives (hang in there!): A sensor of 5 megapixels (equivalent zoom 5x, f / 2.0); a 12 megapixel sensor (2x and Portrait; f / 2.0); a 20-megapixel (ultra wide-angle 117 °, f / 2.2); a 2 megapixel (macro; f / 2.4) and finally a 108 megapixel sensor (82 ° f / 1.69). Yes, 108 megapixels. Pure delirium.

108 megapixels for more light

Supplied by Samsung, this sensor (named HMX) is not intended to make full-resolution photos (12032 x 9024 pixels). The idea is to use the so-called "pixel binning" technology. It is already used by many smartphones with 48 megapixel sensor. It consists of grouping the pixels by four in order to capture brighter images in difficult light conditions. In the end, they are shot in 27 megapixels that provides the last Xiaomi. Which is already good.

A very convincing Macro mode

We had fun with Mi Note 10 on just about every front. The photos taken are generally of very good quality with a precise definition, even in the backgrounds. Good grades fall when using the Macro function. Many times tested, it provides some pretty amazing details for a smartphone. From memory, only Huawei's P30 Pro achieves such a high degree of accuracy and sharpness. On this point, Xiaomi succeeds.

Enthusiasm more moderate for the Mi Note 10 zoom, able, in digital, to propel our eyes to 50x. Suffice to say, there is not much to shoot from images taken with this 50x zoom. But we will be satisfied with optical zoom 2x or 5x that give rise to convincing photos.

For its part, the effect of soft focus at the back of the subject in Portrait mode is doing quite well. Sometimes, however, the clipping of the subject lacks a little nuance.

Night mode, it does not come to the ankle of the famous Night Vision mode of Google Pixel smartphones, but we are satisfied here again with good-looking photos that remain sharp hands.

In 32 megapixels, selfies are formidable precision. Beware of pimples, blackheads, wrinkles: the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 makes us pay dearly for our facial imperfections! Fortunately, a mode "Embellish" allows to operate small facelifts …

2 days of autonomy at least

If there is another point that Xiaomi marks its ground, it is autonomy. With a battery of 5260 mAh, the smartphone displays sacred claims and can boast of holding the shock for 2 days. Even though: supplied with a 30 W charger, it only needs a good hour to recharge its batteries and leave for a ride.

Who can do it the least: Mi Note 10 has no protection against water and dust. This is a real gap. Pure juice gamers will also regret that its processor (Snapdragon 730 G) is not a cador for the most demanding games, but most users will not care. The memory of 128 GB / 6Gb corresponds to the current standards …

Still, as the holiday season approaches, the Mi Note 10 seems determined to buy a place at the foot of the tree. In his price range, he will have to deal with the OnePlus 7T (599 euros) or the Asus
Zenfone 6 (559 euros), two medium-range photophones that also stand out in photography.
