In 2019, Ubisoft announced numerous adaptations to its video game licenses, notably with The Division. Earlier still, in 2016, a feature film inspired by The Division had been mentioned, with in the title roles Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. Refueling The Division in the coming months / years
Today, via a blog note, Ubisoft confirms that the project is ongoing, and that the film The Division is indeed in production at Netflix with Ubisoft Film & Television. We will therefore find Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, who will be directed by director Rawson Marshall Thurber in this film inspired by the events of the original game, launched in 2016.
Ubisoft explains that this new film also marks the first step in its strategy to extend the franchise to other media. Fans of the license will be delighted to know that a new original novel will soon be published by Aconyte. The story will be set in the wake of the events of The Division 2, and will follow agents fighting to secure supply routes in the United States as the Green Poison continues to grow.
As for video games, already very popular on consoles and PC, The Division license will be talked about again… via a future mobile episode. Indeed, Ubisoft very recently confirmed the launch of a new free-to-play game based on its precious license. and which will arrive on iOS and Android soon.
In addition, Ubisoft has also confirmed Heartland, a standalone game that will not require to know the universe of The Division. However for those who have already played the first two games, it will offer a new perspective on the universe in a new setting. The game will be available in 2021-22 on PC, console and cloud.
