With the arrival of the PlayStation 5, PS5 Digital Edition, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in November, this symbolically marks the end of the PS4 and Xbox One generation that began in November 2013. After seven years of dedicated service, it’s time to upgrade to the ninth generation of consoles.
Launched in February 2011 with the Nintendo 3DS, the eighth generation of console ended on November 10, 2020 with the release of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. After making the top 5 of the best PS4 games, then the top 5 of best Xbox One games, ranks in the top 10 of the best third-party games that have been released on multiple media in the past seven years.
Head of Tech / Hardware section at Presse-citron, Roman is also a player and on the PS4 side, he had many wonderful experiences between 2013 and 2020.
Assassin’s Creed Origins : For me the best of Assassin’s Creed. The change in gameplay for fights got me a lot more. I’ve been waiting for an Assassin’s Creed in ancient Egypt for so long.
The Division : Quite a fan of open world games. I loved the “war” phases in The Division. Graphically it was super clean. Even though it got repetitive, it was still a great game.
Watch Dogs : At the time it was a revolution for me such a game. It was magical to tell you that you can control the decor elements with one touch. Again, not perfect but still enjoyable this game.
Grand Theft Auto V : Well, bah, GTA V what. Unbreakable, timeless this game.
Call of Duty – Warzone : I installed this game during the first confinement, to keep in touch with my friends. And then I got caught up in the game. Yet it’s infested with cheaters, it’s developed with the feet, but it reminds me of my youth, that time when I had to go to a LAN room and pay by the hour.
Megaman at night. But high-tech editor, and specialized in the video games section at Presse-citron by day, Stephane is naturally a great player and passionate. Here are the best experiences he has on PS4.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice : While the sequel will be exclusive to Xbox news, Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice is a separate title. Visually incredible, the game of Ninja Theory also benefits from a very elaborate audio section, for a truly unique psychological trip.
Resident Evil VII : With Resident Evil VII, Capcom has chosen to completely revisit its horrific license. A risk-taking that pays off for the Japanese studio, with an extraordinary Resident Evil VII (apart from the very last part of the adventure) and a Resident Evil VIII that we expect with a firm footing (and a feverish hand).
Assassin’s Creed Origins : After many very (too) similar opus, Ubisoft offered in 2017 Assassin’s Creed Origins. A perfectly redesigned episode, with the Egypt of Ptolemy XIII as its playground. A true masterpiece.
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice : No jealousy with Sekiro, who made both PS4 and Xbox players suffer. A very demanding title (From Software obliges), but terribly addicting, and considered one of the best games of the studio (by those who have managed to see the end of it).
Persona 5 : With a unique comic book style, an equally exceptional soundtrack and a gameplay of rare intelligence, Persona 5 is undoubtedly one of the best J-RPGs in history.
Journalist for many sections at Presse-citron, Jean Yves is also a passionate player and he has had great experiences over the past seven years!
Life is Strange : For the fantastic storytelling and the immersion, I love to immerse myself in the community atmosphere of the first or to have the impression of traveling in the 2. It’s also a game for the general public and it allows people to initiate not gamers at all video games.
Football Manager : Huge machine, I have always played there a lot, they are leaders but continue to improve each year taking into account the requests of the fans.
Grand Theft Auto V : So much fun on this game, at the same time fun, fascinating, I also like the sharp criticism of the American model, I had played it on console I recently rediscovered the game through the multi (free game on Epic) .
The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt : It’s super solid in terms of action and the story is very pleasant and puts you in front of really unexpected situations.
Writer specializing in video games alongside Stephane, I am also a big fan of this medium and I naturally spent countless hours on the PS4 to discover the exclusives of the firm. If I had to remember only five …
Crash Team Racing – Nitro Fueled : CTR is the game of my life. I spent so many hours there on PS1, PSP, and PS3 when the game hit PlayStation Store and now on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch with this 2020 remake version. On top of that, the remake is d ‘excellent quality. A pleasure, I hope for next-gen optimization!
Dying Light : Not at all a fan of zombie games, I got into Dying Light out of simple curiosity and… Big surprise! Parkour associated with survival and the city of Harran. It was excellent ! And what about the feeling of the first nights… We really had the anxiety to go outside the base. A pleasure, highly the continuation!
A Way Out : The little nugget signed Joseph Fares with the range of EA Originals games. A narrative game that was to be played by two in which we played two bandits on the run. An interesting, sometimes touching story that I really enjoyed!
The Wolf Among Us : A game from the beginning of the PS4 / One generation, but especially from the end of the PS3 / 360 generation and a great slap in the face. Telltale Games at the top of its game! The mythical accounts revisited in an investigation game that completely kept me going!
Fallout 4 : As a huge fan of the Fallout license, I couldn’t talk about Fallout 4 which kept me busy for so many hours. Without doubt one of my favorite opus (after New Vegas). I devoured the game and all of the DLC and I expect more than anything a Fallout 5 that will make Fallout 76 forget!
Life is Strange : My first loves with the French studio Dontnod Entertainment, they go through the episodes of Life is Strange. I did not see this game coming and what a slap. A narrative slap, staging, artistic direction, but also at the level of the soundtrack which was incredible. A masterpiece !
Crash Bandicoot 4 Its About Time : What was I expecting (with a big lump in my stomach). And what am I not disappointed to see the incredible Crash Bandicoot 4 It’s About Time! A true tribute to the first three opus, which draws its strength from inspiration without falling into failed plagiarism. A real happiness even if the game is far from simple!
Red Dead Redemption II : Without a doubt THE great masterpiece this generation. But also the only Rockstar Games game. Red Dead Redemption II is an example in terms of mastery. Or how to combine open-world and storytelling with stunning graphics. Thanks Rockstar.
