Since November 19, you may be one of the few chosen to have been able to get your hands on a PS5 console. The latest from Sony is indeed nowhere to be found in stores, the fault of a shortage of components and particularly strong demand from gamers. A PS5 which has received various updates since its launch, but which will benefit from a new firmware tomorrow with some eagerly awaited new features, so Sony defines the latter as “the first major update of the PS5“.

A big PS5 update expected tomorrow
“Available worldwide tomorrow, the first major system software update for the PS5 console offers a myriad of new features and enhancements. Our team works hard to make your PlayStation experience as good as possible.”Explains Sony. In fact, this new PS5 update will notably bring a much awaited function: the extension and management of external storage (via USB) for PS5 games.
Indeed, once the update is complete, it will be possible to transfer your PS5 games from the internal storage (the famous magic SSD) of the console, to extended storage via USB. Note however that “Because PS5 games are designed to take advantage of the console’s lightning-fast SSD, PS5 games cannot be launched directly from the USB extended storage.“This is therefore only a storage function, which avoids redownloading a PS5 game from Sony’s servers.
Be careful, however, there is no question of any support for the M.2 storage expansion, which will allow you to add an SSD on board the PS5. This feature is still in development at Sony, and it is expected to arrive at a later date.
Among the other new features brought by the update, new social features for better interactions between PS4 and PS5 players, new control and customization options (including a redesigned Game Base menu), not to mention the pre-download game updates, game library optimization, new trophy settings… So you know what to expect when you start your PS5 tomorrow.
