Like last year with its iPhone XR, Apple dominated the ranking of the most popular smartphones on the market in the first quarter of 2020. And according to a report by the analysis firm Omdia, the iPhone 11 would have even performed much better. than its predecessor …

Everything seems to be going well for Apple. While the world is impatiently awaiting the official presentation of its future iPhone 12, which should take place in September during its famous annual Keynote, the apple company can already be satisfied with the performance of its latest high-end model. Unveiled last September, and still available on the SFR store, the iPhone 11 is indeed a hit with consumers, far surpassing its competitors – all ranges combined – leading sales in the first half of 2020, according to various specialists in the tech market.

After Canalys, which already placed Apple’s little gem at the top of its Top 10 best-selling smartphones between January 1 and March 31, it is Omdia’s turn to be unequivocal. In its annual report published on May 26, based on the number of deliveries made by manufacturers, the British firm confirms the popularity of the iPhone 11, announcing no less than 19.5 million copies sold worldwide in this first quarter 2020.

For more than five years (…) there is one thing that has not changed in the smartphone business: Apple has always taken first or second place in the ranking of global deliveries established by Omdia“, underlines the report of the cabinet, which suggests that such a success is”the result of a strategy of offering relatively few different models“over the course of a year. Indeed, in this ranking of the first half of 2020, Samsung, more productive, is certainly just as present – the two manufacturers alone have eight models out of the ten most popular smartphones, at the rate of four each, but its Galaxy A51 follows only by far in second position, with 6.8 million copies delivered, or 12.7 million less than Apple’s iPhone 11 …

Always stronger

In addition, Omdia notes that this performance even considerably exceeds that recorded by the iPhone XR at the same period last year. Almost 6 million copies, all the same. A better result undoubtedly due to a better quality-price ratio offered by the Californian firm on the iPhone 11: yet sold (a little) cheaper than its predecessor, it is distinguished in particular by a double sensor at the back of the much more efficient device. Like what, the photo has become an essential element on smartphones in the eyes of consumers … Still the iPhone XR, which also dominated the market at its time, in the first quarter of 2019, still finds a nice place in this new ranking.

While the latest entry-level models from Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro, take third and fourth places with 6.6 and 6.1 million deliveries respectively made by the Chinese manufacturer, the iPhone XR closes indeed the Top 5 of the most popular devices of the first quarter of 2020 according to Omdia, with 4.7 million copies sold. Added to this the fact that the iPhone 11 Pro Max and 11 Pro itself are also in the ranking (respectively in sixth and eighth position, with 4.2 and 3.8 million devices delivered), we can say that Apple has a (very) good start to the year.

And that’s without counting on the iPhone SE, recently arrived on the market, which should also perform well as a more affordable model from the Apple brand …
