We are no longer in the days when everyone knew each other in Silicon Valley. Last week, Tim Cook told Kara Swisher on a Sway podcast show that he has great admiration for Tesla and Elon Musk, but never had a chance to chat. Apple’s CEO was invited to this podcast to discuss the upcoming lawsuit against Epic Games, as well as various other topics related and unrelated to the iOS 14.5 application tracking transparency policies controversy.
Tim Cook has a lot of respect for Elon Musk
However, over the course of the discussion, Kara Swisher managed to bring up a whole different subject with Tim Cook. The podcast host wished she had Cook’s version of a statement by Elon Musk. On Twitter, the billionaire said that he once considered selling Tesla to Apple, but that Tim Cook did not want to meet him.
During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1/10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting.

In response to this, Tim Cook told Sway’s microphone: “You know I have never spoken to Elon, although I have great admiration and respect for the business he built. I think Tesla has done an amazing job of not only establishing the head, but keeping the head for such a long period of time in EV space. So I really appreciate them. ” It is also important to put things in context.
Indeed, Apple has been conducting research in the field of electric and autonomous cars since 2015, but remains very discreet on this subject. Apple could therefore one day become a real competitor for Tesla. Today, the Cupertino company is said to be in talks with Nissan.
