The Japanese manufacturer announced yesterday two new vehicles to hybrid powertrain for 2021. The Toyota Sienna and the Toyota Venza are both based on the TNGA-K platform, like the new RAV4 and Highlander.
These new hybrid models are in opposition on many points. On the one hand, the brand presents a Toyota Sienna minivan with sporty lines, with a spacious interior that can accommodate seven passengers and their luggage. On the other hand, it unveils the Toyota Venza, a five-seat SUV with four-wheel drive with a beautiful finish and high-end equipment.
Toyota Sienna 2021: a hybrid MPV with a dynamic look
The Sienna is a model developed at Toyota since 1997. And if the old version had a too wise image, the new Sienna arrives with a decidedly more aggressive look. Between a large opening in the front spoiler, and side lines with pronounced edges, this new minivan is clearly more sporty than its predecessor.
On the engine side, the new Sienna is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine accompanied by two electric motors. The cumulative power reaches 243 horses. As an option, the all-wheel drive is accompanied by a third electric motor on the rear axle. Toyota says the Sienna will be able to tow nearly 1,600 kg.
Inside, the equipment is complete, with a central 9 "touch screen compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and also Amazon Alexa. The cabin also has seven USB sockets for passengers. On the basic finish" LE ", The upholstery is in fabrics. The" XLE "finish receives a two-tone faux leather Softex while the" XSE "version adopts a leatherette on bucket seats.
The audio equipment varies from six to twelve speakers depending on the level of finish chosen (LE, XLE, XSE, Limited or Platinum). Standard on the XLE finish, the "Toyota Audio plus" package includes eight speakers and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Platinum version adds the 360 ° camera and head-up display on a 10 "screen.
The Sienna 2021 also receives the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 package including, among other things, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning with steering assistance.
Toyota Venza, the new all-wheel drive hybrid SUV
The Toyota Venza is a five-seater SUV with all-wheel drive. It has an elegant line, wearing false airs of Jaguar F-Pace. We find the large opening in the spoiler, signature of the new Toyota.
Its hybrid engine is, like the Sienna, based on a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine block. Here, however, the engine block is systematically accompanied by three electric motors, which makes the Venza a four-wheel drive vehicle developing 219 horsepower. This hybrid engine is accompanied by a continuously variable transmission.
The on-board computers will learn the habits of the driver (usual timetables, routes) to optimize the consumption and energy efficiency of the Venza. These functions also make it possible to anticipate the density of traffic to avoid sudden braking, all coupled with regenerative braking.
The finish of this SUV is rather luxurious and its equipment complete. The dashboard includes an 8 "touch screen, for LE and XLE finishes, coupled with a 4.2" screen in front of the driver. The high-end finishes receive a 12.3 "screen (optional on the XLE) coupled with a second 7" screen.
This set is completed by a 10 "head-up display and a digital interior rearview mirror supposed to improve visibility and driver concentration in all circumstances.
A JBL audio system, standard on the “Limited” version and optional on the XLE, includes nine speakers for a total power of 1,200 watts. This audio equipment can be paired with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto just like the basic equipment of the LE and XLE finish, which only includes six speakers.
The Venza has S-Flow air conditioning, first introduced by Lexus, which allows air flow to be directed only to occupied seats to avoid energy waste.
It also has good sound insulation for more comfort on long journeys with a single-piece floor covering. As an option, the new SUV will be able to receive an electrochromic glass roof that can switch from clear mode to a so-called “frosted” mode, equipment never seen before on a vehicle at this price.
The Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 safety package comes as standard with standard equipment, including pedestrian detection or collision prevention at the front. The cargo volume of the trunk promises to be one of the largest in its class.
