Volkswagen confirms that it is working on a small ID.1 electric city car, which should have a sale price of less than 20,000 euros.
While the ID.3 is coming soon, followed closely by the ID.4, Volkswagen intends to offer a small electric city car ID.1, the size even more compact than that of an e-up !.
A Volkswagen ID.1 at less than 20,000 euros
Just a few days after announcing that its new ID.3 would not be more expensive than a thermal car, Volkswagen is already talking about the future city car ID.1 in the columns of CAR Magazine British.
The German manufacturer explains: We are working on an electric vehicle whose price will be less than € 20,000. We can reduce the architecture of the MEB platform, with less content, to lower the cost "
A small Volkswagen ID.1 which could be offered in two versions: an entry-level model of 24 kWh, seconded by a model of 36 kWh. For Volkswagen, it is of course a question of constituting a complete range of ID vehicles, with a compact (ID.3), an SUV (ID.4) and a city car (ID.1), without counting of course the others models to come.
A Volkswagen ID.2 looking like a Polo
According to some rumors, the future Volkswagen ID.2 could, for its part, adopt a template of the Polo type, and thus come to compete with the Renault ZOE and other Peugeot e-208. Recall that the current Volkswagen e-up! 2020 is displayed at a rate of 23,400 euros in France (excluding bonuses).
It should also be noted that over the next few years, Volkswagen intends to become the world leader in the electro-mobility market, a goal for which the group has decided to invest a total of 33 billion euros by 2024 .
