Since the launch of the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10, players can enjoy many games, including “backward compatible” games. Games from previous generations therefore, with the possibility of launching Xbox One games, but also many Xbox 360 games, and even some games from the very first Xbox!
Backward compatible games in FPS Boost mode on Xbox Series X and Series S!
In this regard, almost all of these games benefit from new generation features, such as faster loading times and the addition of the Quick Resume, not to mention a quite impressive Auto HDR function on some titles, such as on Panzer Dragoon Orta for example, yet launched in 2002. Today, Xbox decides to go even further, with a new function called FPS Boost.
Indeed, by using the power of the new consoles, the team in charge of backward compatibility at Xbox has developed a technology (the FPS Boost therefore) intended to almost double, and sometimes quadruple, the number of frames per second of some games. Microsoft explains: “While this technology cannot be applied to all titles, these new techniques can cause game engines to render faster, for an extremely smooth experience, which exceeds the performance of the original game, limited to l era by the capabilities of the consoles of the time.”
Concretely, from now on, it is possible to take advantage of FPS Boost technology on several titles, namely Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, UFC 4 and Watch Dogs 2. On New Super Lucky’s Tale, it is possible to display the game in 120 fps, provided obviously to have a Smart TV or a compatible monitor.
Via a future system update, scheduled for this spring, it will be possible to go to the “Manage the game”Of any title to discover a new series of options dedicated to backward compatibility, which will enable or disable the FPS Boost or Auto HDR. The games in question will also have new icons, a bit like the games “optimized for Xbox Series S | X“.
