“Never two without three”, as the saying goes. For even more photo and video quality, the two Pro versions of the iPhone are adorned with their best assets, with three lenses. Why ? How? ‘Or’ What ? We will explain everything to you.

Three objectives, one goal: to take the best picture

This is necessarily the presentation that made the most talk during Apple’s Keynote, Tuesday, September 10. Highly anticipated, the iPhone 11 has finally been unveiled and its variation in three models was especially noted for the appearance of three lenses on the back of the Pro and Pro Max models.

The standard iPhone 11 contains two lenses, one wide-angle and one ultra-wide. Which is already good, even very good. The third lens on its big brothers is in fact a telephoto lens, which allows, as Apple announced in its press release, to obtain professional quality photos. And easily usable. The triple camera is indeed integrated into the iOS and the other novelty that boosts the whole is the A13 Bionic chip. By comparison, its central and graphics processors are 20% more efficient than those of the previous version, the A12. Faster than a highway, so …

Written like that, it may be a bit technical, but by popularizing it, it’s very simple: it goes fast, very fast, and it greatly favors the automatic execution of tasks. With a super fast Neural Engine, the A13 allows the analysis of photos and videos in real time. And it can process over a trillion transactions per second. A bit like all of us, in short … no?

Enough to edit very high quality photos and videos live and easily. Each of the triple camera’s lenses captures video in 4K, with camera-level stabilization and a wide field of view. It is thus possible to zoom in passing from one object to another, but also to carry out an audio zoom, which automatically adapts to the framing to make the sound more dynamic. Now is the time to wake up the Luc Besson that lies dormant in you. Especially since the editing is promised to be very simple, iOS 13 having several intuitive tools to crop, rotate, increase exposure or apply filters. Hollywood magic that fits in your pocket?

The little bird will come out

Regarding photography, again the iPhones 11 Pro and Pro Max see further. Literally. The image is four times larger than before, thanks to the ultra wide angle already mentioned. Vacation photos on Instagram accounts will no longer look like slides or postcards, but rather posters. And precisely speaking of social networks, the selfies will also be able to be boosted, the Portrait mode being able to alternate between the framing of the wide-angle and the telephoto lens.

For the more experts in photography, note also that the TrueDepth camera improves the quality of selfies, with a new 12 Mpx lens with a wide field. And note that the telephoto lens has an ƒ / 2.0 aperture, which captures 40% of light than the iPhone XS. Simpler, there is the famous Night mode, which finally arrives on iPhone. This will improve shots taken in low light conditions, both outdoors and indoors. Look at the result instead, with or without Night mode. It’s quite impressive:

But all this material to thrill all budding videographers, excited to be able to make quality short films with a simple smartphone, will not be more complicated than that to use. This is the promise made by Apple, which guarantees “a more immersive experience”. For example, you can switch from photo mode to video mode simply by keeping your finger pressed on the shutter button. Without having to leave photo mode, therefore.

IPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will be available from September 20, in 64, 256 and 512 GB versions. From 1159 and 1259 euros.
